What is the program ?

The program delivers automotive theory, system operation, and on-vehicle diagnostics training that provides Soldiers with the knowledge necessary to begin a new career. During the ATTP program, Soldiers learn automotive skills required to diagnose and repair a customer’s vehicle; perform on-vehicle diagnosis; and repair multiple vehicle systems while utilizing the special tools available for each area.

Why should I apply ?

Upon separation from the Army and successful completion of the training program, graduates will be well-positioned to fill one of the 2,500 GM service technician positions that open annually across the U.S. The median annual wage for automotive service technicians was $36,610 in 2012; however, master technicians can earn considerably higher salaries. This training also provides a great foundation for advanced automotive degree programs.

What is the cost* ?

There is no cost to the Soldier for this 12-week, on-duty program; however automotive technicians usually are required to provide their own hand tools once they begin to work in the automotive field.
*Soldiers are responsible for the expense of the ASE Certification Tests required for Gold Certification in each service category. For more information please visit the ASE website
